Tech Skills With the Fastest Job Growth

It is no surprise that many of the skills experiencing the largest increase were cloud-related; with thousands of companies turn to the cloud to fulfill their key business needs, there’s more need than ever for technology professionals who know their way around the segment’s platforms and tools.

Core skills such as project management are much more needed by companies, which is no surprise — technology professionals who can build out and mange complex systems are always in high demand, no matter what the conditions of broader market. The need for data scientists likewise won’t abate anytime soon, given how even the smallest firms now wrangle with some truly  epic datasets.

The Value of Killing a Project Fast

http://insights.dice.com/2016/07/25/the-value-of-killing-a-project-fast/

It is very difficult to decide whether we should kill a project or not. For tech giant like Google, there’s a formula – if a project likely won’t make money on the open market, it is killed; if it may take fifteen or twenty years to mature, it is killed; if the underlying technology seems unsound in any way, it is killed.

Fail as fast as possible, goes the maxim of many a startup, and soon enough you’ll hit success. Although this collective mentality can lead to crushing depression among startup co-founders, sometimes it’s better to kill a project as fast as possible, rather than continuing to burn money and time.

More Opportunities in the Wearables Market

http://insights.dice.com/2016/07/18/more-opportunities-wearables-market/

I tried several wearable gadgets many years ago, including Mi Band and Codoon. None of them impressed me, although the Codoon costed me hundreds of yuan. There were many aspects needed to improve, such as making it smaller and more fashionable, longer battery life. Besides those, wearables seem have other challenges on their functions. For a person who is fond on keeping fit, he/she may want more than counting steps or analyse his/her sleeping. A well designed curriculum and entertainment functions will be very useful and necessary.

The Rise of Remote Workers

There are many advantages for working at home, but the disadvantages seem to be more obvious.

While working remotely offers the chance at a better work-life balance, it’s not always an easy thing for either employers or tech pros to carry out. Working in an actual office, face-to-face with colleagues on a day-to-day basis, has a way of streamlining communications and building rapport. If you’re working five hundred miles away, it can prove exponentially more difficult to forge those same sorts of connections.

Here’s Your Chance to Build Nintendo Games

http://insights.dice.com/2016/07/13/heres-your-chance-build-nintendo-games/

When I first saw ‘Nintendo’, I thought – what the hell is this? But it got clear when the familiar words like Wii U, 3DS came out later on and I figure out it must have something in common with ‘任天堂’.

The gaming behemoth has launched a unified developer portal that gathers all of its tool and documentation in one place.

Will Tesla Crash Slow Autonomous Driving Tech?

http://insights.dice.com/2016/07/01/will-tesla-crash-slow-autonomous-driving-tech/

I believe it is an advert of Tesla because it said — Among all vehicles in US, there is a fatality every 94 million miles where autopilot is activated, while Model S has achieved a fatality every 130 million miles, which means better performance on safety.

However, the reliability of autonomous driving depends not only on  technologies but on human factors. A chaos traffic condition will put this kind of technology into a real dilemma, particularly, where people go randomly. But if we can provide a relatively clear environment, public services like trams or subways or trains are more suitable instead.
